Privacy Policy

Budler ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Budler mobile application for iOS and Android (the "Service"). This page explains what information the Service handles, how, and the choices you have.

Budler is offline-first. It works fully without an account, and your financial data stays on your device unless you turn on Premium cloud sync.

The Short Version

  • Budler has no account system and no Budler-operated server. We never receive or store your transactions.
  • Your budgets, transactions, and other financial data are stored locally on your device.
  • Premium cloud sync stores an encrypted copy in your own iCloud (iOS) or Google Drive (Android) app-private storage — space only you and the app can access. We cannot see it.
  • When you request an AI coaching analysis, a summary of the relevant figures is sent to Google's Gemini API to generate the response.
  • We use PostHog for anonymous product analytics and RevenueCat for subscription management.
  • We do not sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps or websites.
  • Information We Handle

Financial and app data you enter

Transactions, budgets, categories, savings accounts and goals, recurring items, and your preferences (including base currency). This is stored in a local database on your device. It leaves your device only if you (a) enable Premium cloud sync, or (b) request an AI coaching analysis — both described below.

    Account and identity

  • iOS: Budler has no login. Premium cloud sync uses your device's iCloud account; that identity stays between your device and Apple — Budler never receives it.
  • Android: If you turn on Premium cloud sync, you sign in with Google. We receive your Google account's email address, name, and a Google user identifier, used only to store your backup in your Google Drive app folder and to keep your subscription entitlement attached to your account across devices.
  • Purchase data

When you buy or restore a subscription, RevenueCat (our billing provider) together with the App Store or Google Play processes the purchase and shares purchase history and a subscription identifier with the app so it can unlock Premium. Payment card details are handled entirely by Apple or Google — Budler never sees them.

    Usage and diagnostic data

PostHog collects anonymous product-analytics events (screens viewed, features used, app opens) along with device type, operating system version, a generated device/installation identifier, an approximate region derived from IP address, and similar diagnostic data. It does not receive your transactions or other financial details.

    Currency exchange rates

For multi-currency features and the currency converter, the app requests published reference exchange rates from frankfurter.app. These requests contain only currency codes and dates — no personal or financial data.

    AI Coaching

Budler's AI coaches are powered by Google's Gemini API. When you ask for an analysis, the app sends the figures needed for it (such as category totals, budget amounts, and recurring-item rules) to the Gemini API and returns the generated feedback. Requests are not tied to your name or account. Google processes this data as a service provider under its API terms and does not use Gemini API data to train its models.

    Where Your Data Is Stored

  • Free: local database on your device only. No cloud copy.
  • Premium: local database on your device, plus an encrypted snapshot in your own iCloud (iOS) or Google Drive (Android) app-private storage.
  • There is no Budler backend database. Firebase and Convex, used by earlier versions, have been retired.

    How We Use Information

  • Provide and maintain the Service and its features
  • Sync your data across your devices when you enable Premium
  • Generate the AI coaching analyses you request
  • Process and restore subscriptions
  • Understand aggregate feature usage and fix bugs and crashes
  • Detect, prevent, and address technical and security issues
  • Sharing

We do not sell your personal information and we do not use it for cross-app advertising or tracking. Information is shared only with the service providers named above — Apple, Google, RevenueCat, PostHog, and frankfurter.app — each acting on our behalf or to provide their part of the Service, and where required by law.

    Data Retention and Deletion

  • Local data: removed when you delete it in the app or uninstall the app.
  • Cloud sync data: turning off backup or using "Delete Account & Data" in the app removes the cloud snapshots; you can also remove Budler's data from your iCloud or Google Drive settings.
  • Analytics data: retained by PostHog in aggregate for a limited period for trend analysis.
  • Android users can also use the Delete Account page on this site.
  • Children's Privacy

Budler is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

    Your Choices

  • Use Budler fully for free with no account and no cloud sync.
  • Turn Premium cloud sync on or off at any time in Settings.
  • Skip AI coaching if you would rather no data be sent for analysis.
  • Security of Data

We use commercially reasonable measures to protect your information, including on-device storage by default and encrypted cloud snapshots for Premium. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
